Concrete planning intelligence from BDS

A black pen and a plan of a house with a white ruler

In 2024 BDS has recorded nearly 60 planning schemes related to the concrete and cement sector in Great Britain.  BDS are an independent and innovative market research consultancy with over 30 years’ experience specialising in minerals, heavy building materials industries and waste sectors.

Every month BDS monitor and report on all planning applications, for all counties, across Great Britain, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland – this information is then offered to interested individuals via a planning subscription whereby BDS report on planning applications that have been submitted, consented, withdrawn or refused.

In Great Britain, between January and September 2024, BDS has recorded 26 consents related to the concrete and cement sector. Sixteen of the recorded consents were associated with the construction of new batching plants across Great Britain. Regionally the South East, South West, West Midlands and Scotland obtained the highest concentration of approvals. The North East has received no planning consents for concrete and cement projects to date.

Amongst the companies being granted planning approval in 2024:

  • Aggregate Industries secured permission for two ready-mixed concrete facilities in Scotland (Glasgow and Argyll & Bute).
  • Breedon Trading obtained three planning consents. The first, for the retention of an existing batching plant for an additional three years. The second, for the construction of a new ready-mixed concrete plant at Freemans limestone quarry in Somerset and lastly, a retrospective approval for two concrete silos at Woodhall Spa Concrete Plant.
  • Two applications associates with sustainable practices within the concrete and cement market have been approved. In May 2024 Carbon Upcycling Technologies received approval for a new carbon sequestration-cement additive plant in Rugby, West Midlands and in August 2024 Material Evolution Ltd obtained consent to build a processing facility aimed at producing low-carbon cement in Wrexham.

BDS offer the planning services for a wide number of industry sectors, concrete and cement being just one of the streams of interest. If you would like to discuss a planning service subscription with BDS please email [email protected] or visit www.bdsmarketing.co.uk for more information.
