Czech Republic’s House of Seven floors completed
The House of Seven Floors, a striking new residential building designed by Czech studio Maly Chmel, has been completed in the city of Brno. Finished in late 2024, the project is a modern example of sustainable and innovative concrete architecture.
Built using cast-in-place concrete and local materials, the seven-storey structure features a bold, sculptural facade that balances openness and privacy. According to Maly Chmel, the design incorporates deep-set windows and terraces that bring in natural light while reducing heat gain.
Speaking about the design, lead architect Martin Chmel said: “The aim was to create a building that enhances its urban surroundings and offers residents a harmonious connection between interior and exterior spaces.”
Each floor of the 900-square-metre building houses a mix of flats designed to maximise living space and efficiency. The open-plan interiors feature exposed concrete walls, polished concrete floors, and timber accents, providing a modern yet warm aesthetic.
The House of Seven Floors also includes several green features, such as a rooftop garden and rainwater collection system. These elements aim to improve energy efficiency and align the project with contemporary environmental standards.
The building's completion is a testament to the growing trend of environmentally conscious concrete design across Europe. Maly Chmel’s project demonstrates how innovative architecture can meet the challenges of urbanisation and environmental responsibility.
