Future of ground engineering explored in Bruges
Ground engineering conference heads to Bruges in May 2025
A major ground engineering conference, Geotechnics Reimagined, will take place from 21 to 23 May 2025 in Bruges, Belgium. Jointly organised by the Deep Foundations Institute (DFI) and the European Federation of Foundations Contractors (EFFC), the event aims to explore innovations shaping the industry’s future.
The conference will include keynote lectures, paper presentations, and workshops covering topics such as sustainability, digitalisation, and emerging technologies in foundation design and construction.
Will Harris, event organiser, said: “We are living through a time of transformation in ground engineering. This event will highlight practical innovations and explore the challenges and opportunities the industry faces.”
On the first day, participants will attend workshops and early-career sessions at KU Leuven's Bruges campus, including discussions on offshore geotechnics and updates to Eurocodes. The day will end with networking, a concert, and a walking dinner overlooking the city.
The second and third days will take place at the Bruges Meeting and Convention Centre (BMCC). Topics include sustainable practices, minimising environmental impact, and integrating human-centric designs. An interactive exhibition will allow attendees to explore the latest technologies, with a dedicated area for young professionals and students.
The conference will provide attendees with a chance to engage with global leaders, explore cutting-edge research, and address the challenges of building sustainable infrastructure.
