London Concrete, part of the Holcim Group, has introduced two new products to the UK market: Airium Roadfill and Airium Voidfill. These foam concrete solutions are designed to improve efficiency, durability, and sustainability in construction projects, offering practical benefits for contractors and engineers.

The UK launch took place at London Concrete's plant, where demonstrations highlighted how Airium Roadfill and Airium Voidfill perform in real-world scenarios, along with technical details about their versatility and environmental benefits.

Airium Roadfill aims to simplify road construction and maintenance by reducing the need for specialised equipment such as compactors. It eliminates stockpiling of granular materials and helps prevent long-term settlement issues, making projects faster and more reliable.

This foam concrete is ideal for applications like highway repairs and utility work, particularly where traditional methods are difficult. It can fill narrow trenches and undercut pockets, protecting infrastructure such as pipelines. Airium Roadfill reaches 4 MPa strength in seven days, while Airium Roadfill Ultra achieves the same in just one to two days, making it suitable for urgent repairs.

Airium Voidfill is designed to fill voids under building foundations, around pipelines, or within underground structures. It is lightweight yet strong, ensuring it doesn’t place additional load on nearby structures. This solution reduces labour costs by streamlining the application process and offers a more sustainable option by minimising waste and reducing carbon emissions.

Both Airium Roadfill and Airium Voidfill comply with industry standards and are designed to ensure the long-term stability of infrastructure while meeting the growing demand for sustainable materials in construction.

Jon Collyer, managing director of London Concrete, said: “We are excited to bring Airium to the UK market. These innovative products meet the UK construction industry’s need for sustainable, high-performance materials, reducing carbon footprints while improving project efficiency and durability.”

As part of pre-launch trials, London Concrete worked with Laing O’Rourke to test Airium Voidfill on a live project. Martin Osbourne from Laing O’Rourke said, “We tailored Airium Voidfill to meet our specific requirements and were pleased with the results. It has proven to be an excellent alternative to traditional concrete for applications where weight reduction is key.”

Airium, developed by Holcim, offers advanced foam concrete solutions aimed at enhancing construction projects' efficiency and sustainability. These products are part of Holcim’s ongoing commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
