MJ Teale expands into drive-through concrete

Alex Atkinson, director of fibo Collect UK, Brad Penketh and Josh Crofts (plant operatives) and Josh Teale, director of MJ Teale

Blackpool-based MJ Teale has invested in a fibo Collect: Concrete, Mortar and Screed Drive Thru from Danish manufacturer fibo Intercon, the 10th machine of its kind to be installed in the UK since it entered the UK market in February 2023.

The system comprises an automated batching plant equipped with self-cleaning technology, a washout recycling tank, a hydraulic conveyor all merged with Cloud-based software enabling users to easily order varying amounts of concrete, mortar, or screed with a simple push of a button.

MJ Teale Recycled Sand & Aggregates was established in 1971 and specialises in supplying quality recycled aggregates across Blackpool, Wyre & the Fylde Coast. All aggregates meet WRAP protocols and Highway Works Specifications. Its facilities accept and process non-hazardous soils and hard materials including concrete and tarmac. The Kingscourt site already features advanced crushing, screening, and a state-of-the-art wash plant.

To expand the company, brothers Josh and Jake Teale who are both directors have set a mission for growth within the business that incorporates innovation, circular economy and sustainability.

On the purchase, Josh Teale said: "We’re a very forward-thinking waste management company with sustainability at the heart of what we do. As a business, we’re focused on producing high quality sand & gravels as a bi-produce of waste excavations that would otherwise be sent for landfill. The decision to invest into the fibo Collect system is one based on our passion for a circular economy and always looking for alternate way to be resourceful with these materials. We believe the concept opens up opportunities for us to push our recycled products further up the value chain whilst creating a quality, greener and more efficient ready mixed concrete, mortar and screed service for our local market."

As part of the process, the brothers visited fibo Intercon in Denmark: "We have been extremely impressed with the attention to detail in all parts of the manufacturing process. But more than that what has surprised us is the productive work ethic and positive culture that’s been generated at the factory," explained Josh.

"I have been to many factories over the years but have been blown away by the innovation that’s evident here in Denmark. The team have clearly dedicated a huge amount into looking at how they can innovate in the drive through concrete space and are quickly becoming a driving force in sustainability which is a value that we both have in common."

The fibo Collect machine will be strategically positioned in a layby on the main exit road enabling customers to fill and go without causing disruption to main yard operations.
