Webuild-NGE win Grand Paris Express contract

An artist's rendering of a new metro station in Paris Webuild-NGE joint venture will design and build four underground stations and 75km of tunnels of the Grand Paris Express that add to the already completed for Lines 16 and 14

The Webuild-NGE joint venture (JV) has secured a €1.38B (£1.2B) contract to construct Lot 2 of the Western section of Line 15 of the Grand Paris Express.

This project, representing a major advancement in sustainable mobility within Europe, is the latest success in the ongoing collaboration between Webuild and NGE.

The contract, awarded by Société des grands projets, involves designing and constructing 7km of tunnels, four underground stations, and six “functional structures” between Pont de Sèvres and Saint-Denis Pleyel stations.

The project will be executed by Webuild in joint venture with NGE, Equans France, and TSO.

Adhering to eco-design principles, the construction will use concrete with lower carbon content and other materials with minimal environmental impact, such as bio-based and recycled materials. Energy consumption will be optimised through energy recovery systems and efficient lighting and ventilation. Additionally, native vegetation will be integrated into station designs to enhance biodiversity.

Line 15, set to be France’s longest metro line at 75km, will form a ring around Paris, connecting 36 stations across 45 municipalities and four departments.

The Grand Paris Express aims to improve the quality of life in the Paris area by providing a sustainable transport solution that integrates suburbs with the city centre. The project encompasses approximately 200 kilometres of lines and 68 stations, with 90% of the network constructed underground, and is expected to serve over 3 million passengers daily.

In addition to the current project, Webuild and NGE are completing Lot 2 of Line 16 of the Grand Paris Express, set to finish next Autumn. Beyond France, the partnership extends to the Ontario Line project in Toronto, Canada.

Webuild’s portfolio in France also includes the extension of Line 14 to Orly Airport and the EOLE (Liaison Express Est-Ouest) project. In Italy, Webuild is advancing sustainable mobility with the construction of Milan's M4 metro line and Line C of Rome’s metro, featuring stations that highlight archaeological heritage.
