Call for Concrete Society Award nominations
One of the longest-running awards schemes in UK construction, this event is also the most prestigious competition to showcase the use of concrete as a structural material and express the sheer flexibility in its application.
The competition is open to structures completed between October 2022 and April 2024.
Kathy Calverley, the Society’s managing director, said: “The Society Awards generate extensive publicity for all companies shortlisted. Once again, we are looking forward to receiving many varied entries that demonstrate innovation and excellence through the use of concrete.”
Any organisation that participated in a project can enter by completing the nomination forms. Previous winners are wide-ranging and include private houses; bridges; offices; acoustic sound-barring walls; wastewater treatment works; theatres; and innovative or sculptural elements.
Each project will stand on its own merit. The competition is unique in that judges visit all shortlisted structures before making their final decision. They will take into account factors such as:
• visual impression and integration with the surrounding landscape
• functional suitability
• properties of concrete exploited in the design
• innovation in concrete composition, structure or form
• execution and finish
• integration of structure and services
• sustainability credentials
• client satisfaction, value for money.
The early-bird deadline for entries is 22 March 2024, with the final deadline being 24 April 2024. A shortlist announcement will be made in July and the Awards presented at The Society’s Annual Awards Dinner at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London on 13 November 2024.
