PAS 2080:2023 certification for Heidelberg Materials

Heidelberg Materials receive certification to new carbon-management standard in the UK

HEIDELBERG Materials have become the first heavy building materials manufacturer in the UK to reach the updated PAS 2080:2023 standard on managing and reducing whole-life carbon in the built environment.

PAS 2080:2023 provides a consistent framework for evaluating and managing carbon for all involved in the delivery of buildings and/or infrastructure. The revised standard has an expanded scope; a new emphasis on whole-life carbon; and a stronger alignment with the transition to a net-zero carbon economy by 2050.

Heidelberg Materials’ certification, which follows two external audits carried out by Construction Products Certification (CPC), demonstrates that the company has carbon-management processes in place to:

  • help its customers reduce carbon within a specific project or programme of work

  • help its customers make better decisions on lower-carbon solutions

  • ensure the embodied carbon within its products reduces over time.

‘The UK’s built environment is responsible for around a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions, so decarbonizing the sector is key to meeting the Climate Change Act and net-zero carbon ambitions,’ said Heidelberg Materials’ UK sustainability director, Marian Garfield (pictured).

‘This certification will become an increasingly important requirement and demonstrates our commitment to leading the way in delivering lower-carbon solutions for our customers as well as meeting our own decarbonization goals.’

The scope of Heidelberg Materials’ PAS 2080:2023 certification is as a supplier of heavy building products as well as a constructor of road surfacing and infrastructure.
