VINCI Construction to acquire FM Conway

VINCI Construction has agreed terms to acquire public works company FM Conway.

In a statement the company said the “strategic move” aims to strengthen VINCI Construction’s presence and enhance its capabilities in the competitive UK market.

Founded in 1961 by Francis Michael Conway, FM Conway is still owned by the Conway family and is based in Sevenoaks, Kent. The company reported an annual revenue of approximately €690 million (£580 million) in 2024 and employs around 2,000 people. FM Conway operates primarily in the south-east of England, providing a wide range of services, including roadworks, civil engineering, and the production of asphalt and binders. The company also offers specialist services such as water and drainage management, lighting, cabling, and traffic management.

“FM Conway has a strong reputation for delivering high-quality public works and infrastructure services,” said Scott Wardrop, chief executive of VINCI Construction’s UK division. “This acquisition represents a significant opportunity to expand our capabilities and enhance our service offerings in the UK, particularly in the south-east.”

The completion of the acquisition is subject to necessary regulatory approvals and is expected to be finalised in early 2025. Integrating FM Conway into the VINCI Construction network will bolster the company’s position in the dynamic south-east England market, allowing for greater self-delivery of projects and improved operational efficiencies.

Joanne Conway, chief executive officer and executive group chair at FM Conway, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition: “We are proud of our heritage as a family business and excited about this new chapter with VINCI. This partnership will allow us to leverage shared values and create further growth opportunities, benefiting our clients and the communities we serve.”

In 2023, VINCI Group reported nearly €6 billion in total revenue in the UK across its three business lines: concessions, energy, and construction. The group employs approximately 13,000 people in the country.
