CE marking extended for construction and site equipment

The UK government has confirmed that CE marking will continue to be recognised beyond June 2025 for construction products, machinery, and personal protective equipment (PPE). The decision allows businesses to use either CE or UKCA marking when placing products on the Great Britain market.

The Construction Products Regulations 2011, amended after Brexit, remain in place and will continue to govern the marking of construction materials. The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) oversees these regulations, while the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) ensures compliance.

In a statement announcing the measures, the government said: “This extension provides certainty for businesses and supports a smooth transition while we continue to review and reform the UK’s construction products regulatory framework.”

In addition to construction products, CE marking will still be accepted for machinery used on construction sites, following the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. This means that excavators, cranes, and other site equipment can continue to be sold with CE certification.

For PPE, including hard hats, safety boots, gloves, and high-visibility clothing, CE marking remains valid under the Personal Protective Equipment (EU Regulation) 2016/425. Construction firms will still be able to source safety gear from European suppliers without additional UKCA certification requirements.

The government has also committed to a long-term review of the product marking system to ensure it meets industry needs. Future changes may impact how construction products, machinery, and PPE are regulated in the UK.

For now, businesses in the construction sector can continue using either CE or UKCA marking, helping to reduce disruption and maintain supply chains.
