Concrete event to focus on sustainability issues
The Structural Concrete Alliance has announced the final programme for its Sustainability-Focused Industry Day, set to take place on 20 March 2025 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Manchester City Centre. The event will focus on sustainable solutions for concrete, covering topics such as carbon reduction, climate adaptation and infrastructure resilience.
The event is organised by the Concrete Repair Association, the Corrosion Prevention Association and the Sprayed Concrete Association. It aims to bring together professionals from across the concrete and infrastructure sectors to share insights and discuss future challenges.
Professor Paul Lambert of Mott MacDonald will chair the event, which features expert speakers from major industry players. Key sessions include:
- Climate adaptation and carbon reduction – Jenny Cooke, Network Rail
- Living with RAAC: issues and remediation – Christian Stone, Loughborough University
- Corrosion resistance of concrete using low-carbon cements – Chris Wozencroft, Corrosion Engineering
- Carbon reduction in water tank refurbishment – Mackenzie Construction
- Industry insights – Gareth Wake, British Ready-Mixed Concrete Association
- Delivering a resilient transport network – Neil Johnstone, CIHT
A panel discussion will close the day, giving attendees the chance to put questions to the speakers.
Chris Wozencroft, from Corrosion Engineering, said: “Using low-carbon cements is key to improving the durability of concrete and reducing its environmental impact.”
The event will also feature an exhibition with companies including Balvac, Fosroc, Gunite and Mackenzie Construction, showcasing the latest materials and technologies for concrete repair and protection.
The Industry Day is open to both members and non-members of the Structural Concrete Alliance. Registration is open online.
