Holcim divests business in Kenya

Holcim has sold its entire 58.6% stake in Bamburi Cement Limited, its Kenyan business, to Amsons Group, securing cash proceeds of over USD 100 million (£78 million).

The move is part of Holcim’s strategy to consolidate its leadership in core markets and focus on innovative and sustainable building solutions. The company stated that Amsons Group is well-placed to develop Bamburi Cement’s operations in Kenya for long-term growth.

This sale aligns with Holcim’s broader plans to streamline operations globally. In 2023, the company reported net sales of CHF 27.0 billion (£23.4 billion) and employed 63,000 people across various regions. Its portfolio includes sustainable construction solutions such as ECOPact concrete, ECOPlanet cement, and ECOCycle circular technology, alongside advanced roofing and insulation systems under the Elevate brand.

Holcim operates worldwide, with a presence across Europe, North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America, and Africa. It focuses on driving sustainability and improving living standards through innovative building materials and technologies.

For the Kenyan market, this transaction signals a new chapter, with Amsons Group expected to lead Bamburi Cement into its next phase of development.
