Mecbo America launches concrete crawler boom
Mecbo America has launched the Scorpion concrete crawler boom, a flexible solution for placing concrete in difficult or hazardous locations.
Designed for contractors working in piling, drilling, tunnelling, and commercial construction, the Scorpion, which is also available in Europe, enables concrete to be placed efficiently without disrupting the jobsite.
“As concrete contractors grow and the scope of their work changes, many recognise the need for a boom,” said Scott Knighton, co-CEO of Blastcrete Equipment, Mecbo America’s parent company. “The Scorpion provides that benefit without the added expense of another pump.”
Weighing 10 tonnes, the Scorpion has a vertical reach of 15.8 metres and a horizontal reach of 14 metres. It features a 370-degree rotation, allowing operators to manoeuvre around obstacles such as structures, landscaping, and tight spaces. This design reduces time-consuming and costly project delays, making it particularly useful for work on highway overpasses and large commercial buildings.
Unlike conventional truck-mounted booms, the Scorpion has no stabilisers, allowing continuous concrete pumping while the machine is in motion. It is available with a 37-kilowatt electric motor or a 22-kilowatt diesel engine, with an optional soundproofing feature. The boom folds into a “Z” shape for compact transport on a trailer. Custom configurations are available for customers needing a greater reach than 15.8 metres.
All models come standard with a handheld radio control, allowing the operator to control both the boom and the undercarriage remotely.
Mecbo America is a division of Blastcrete Equipment LLC, a US-based manufacturer of concrete pumping and placing equipment. It supplies contractors primarily in North America, providing machinery for specialised concrete applications.
Partnership
In June 2024, Blastcrete Equipment partnered with Italian concrete equipment manufacturer Mecbo Srl to create Mecbo America, a division of Blastcrete. The distribution and service agreement expanded Mecbo’s presence in North, Central, and South America while enhancing Blastcrete’s product range with Mecbo pump technology.
“Mecbo America ensured customers got the best product solutions with local support and service,” said Daniela Tarozzi, Mecbo’s communications director.
As part of the partnership, Blastcrete integrated Mecbo pumps into its trailer-mounted designs and began offering Mecbo models such as the Beton Cap mixer-pump and Cartrack P6, along with the Scorpion, Robotrack, and Car Cingolo.
The agreement also strengthened service and support, with Blastcrete providing parts, troubleshooting, and free customer training.
