Roger Bullivant win Castleward contract

The Castleward Urban Village residential neighbourhood includes a new tree-lined boulevard, public square, primary school shops, and 800 new homes, many of which are classed as “affordable” housing.

Roger Bullivant Limited’s Central office have been awarded the foundation contract for the Castleward residential project in Derby city centre, working with Lovell Partnerships and Compendium Living.

The project will use Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) piles and precast RBeam foundations to support new apartment blocks.

CFA piling has been selected as the preferred pile type due to the specific ground conditions in the area. The soil profile in Derby comprises mixed granular and cohesive strata, which are ideally suited for CFA piling.

This technique ensures minimal ground disturbance and vibration, making it an optimal choice for urban residential projects. Additionally, CFA piles provide high load-bearing capacity and stability, essential for the structural integrity of the apartment block.

RBL’s Midlands Division will deploy its 7009 Series Piling Rig, the latest addition to RBL’s fleet, to handle the CFA piling operations.

The new rig offers several benefits that make it particularly effective for CFA piling, according to Gareth Griffiths, Midlands regional manager, RBL, including:

- Enhanced Efficiency: The rig's advanced hydraulics and automated systems increase operational efficiency, reducing project timelines.

- Precision Drilling: Superior depth control and precision ensure accurate pile placement, crucial for maintaining structural integrity.

- Environmental Considerations: The rig is designed to minimise noise and vibration, reducing the impact on surrounding communities and environments.

- Versatility: Capable of handling a wide range of ground conditions, the rig ensures adaptability and reliability on diverse project sites.

The foundation package includes all site engineering and structural design, enabling RBL to manage the full piling and ground beam process. The use of precast concrete RBeam brings its own benefits to city centre developments such as Castleward with the offsite manufacturing process reducing traffic movements and onsite waste, whilst providing a factory-quality product.

“We are thrilled to be a part of the transformative Castleward development,” said Griffiths. “Our new 7009 Series Piling Rig and precast RBeam will play a crucial role in delivering ground engineering solutions, supporting Lovell Partnerships and Compendium Living in creating a vibrant residential community in the heart of Derby.”
