Tarmac has launched its eMixer Discovery Programme, introducing five electric concrete mixers to help suppliers transition to zero-emission vehicles.

The programme, developed with Renault Trucks and McPhee Mixers, allows supply chain partners to lease an electric mixer for six months to test its performance before committing to long-term investment. It builds on Tarmac’s earlier work in 2022, when it introduced the UK’s first fully electric concrete mixer.

Ben Garner, head of logistics at Tarmac, said: “The launch of our eMixer programme is an exciting step towards making the shift to zero-emission vehicles smoother and more accessible for our suppliers. Our ‘try before you buy’ model allows our partners to de-risk their initial transition to electrification.”

Garner added: “Our approach ensures we lead by example, making meaningful contributions to reducing carbon emissions, reducing urban noise, and improving air quality.”

The five new electric mixers are part of Tarmac’s wider strategy to move to a fully electric fleet and support the construction industry’s net-zero targets.

Roger Clarke, Renault Trucks UK and Ireland head of electromobility and customer advanced solutions, said: “The expansion of Tarmac’s electric concrete mixer fleet sets a benchmark for the construction industry, driving progress across the sector.”

Costin at Concrete Haulage Limited, which is operating one of the new electric mixers at Tarmac’s King’s Cross site, said: “Operating this electric mixer is an exciting opportunity for us to work with Tarmac to build the future of transport in our sector.”

Tarmac’s programme aims to accelerate the shift to low-carbon transport and support its supply chain in reducing emissions.
