UK launch for Heidelberg Materials’ evoBuild

Heidelberg Materials has launched evoBuild, a global brand for low-carbon and circular building materials in the UK. The evoBuild range includes cement, ready-mixed concrete, aggregates, and asphalt products, all designed to meet sustainability standards.

All evoBuild products have clear sustainability credentials. They are either low carbon, providing a reduction of at least 30% in CO2 emissions compared to standard products, or circular, containing a minimum of 30% recycled content or using at least 30% less material.

Alongside evoBuild, the company is also introducing evoZero, which is the world’s first carbon-captured net-zero cement.

“Decarbonisation and circularity are core pillars for our business,” said Simon Willis, CEO of Heidelberg Materials. “Introducing evoBuild products brings a global and transparent approach to product sustainability. It makes it easier for customers to specify more sustainable construction materials and will help us reach our target of generating 50% of our global revenue through sustainable products by 2030.”

EvoZero, which was introduced to customers in mainland Europe last year, utilises carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to achieve its net-zero status. Heidelberg Materials has been developing the industry’s first large-scale CCS facility in Brevik, Norway, since 2005. Once operational, this facility is expected to capture 400,000 tonnes of CO2 annually, enabling the production of evoZero.

By 2029, the company plans to start producing evoZero cement at its Padeswood site in north Wales, marking another significant step in the decarbonisation of the construction industry. All sustainable products will gradually be added to the evoBuild portfolio over the coming years, reinforcing Heidelberg Materials' commitment to environmental responsibility in construction.
