Five minutes with...Scott Wilson of Oscrete

What can you tell us about Oscrete?

Oscrete is one of the UK’s leading specialist construction chemical suppliers which manufactures and supplies a range of concrete admixtures for precast and ready-mix concrete and the ready-to-use mortar industries. The business was formed in 1983 when new markets were found for the oil and surfactant products made by our former parent company and laundry detergent manufacturer, Christeyns.

Oscrete rapidly developed products for precast concrete, ready-mix concrete and mortar, leading to the growth of the brand as a specialised, high performance concrete admixtures producer. Today, our Bradford-based business works with customers across the UK, developing, delivering and manufacturing a range of high performance super-plasticising admixtures, waterproofing agents and products to control moisture damage in construction.

What are the key values of the company and how do you embody them?

Our values are family, expertise, continuous improvement, passion, safety first and a culture of care, commitment and partnership. We are a family of experts with a passion for delivering sustainable growth and a commitment to continuously improve our customers’ operations by prioritising their experience, delivering technical expertise and continually  innovating. We pride ourselves on becoming an extension of every customer’s team – something we know is highly valued by those we work with.

Expertise is critical in our complex, fast moving industry and we ensure that through continued professional development and team investment that we operate under the highest industry standards and qualifications. Our decades of collective experience ensures the highest levels of technical support and – critically - our supply chain knowledge navigates material sourcing, avoiding disruption to customer businesses.

How can the sector deal with the challenges of achieving net zero by 2050?

As a construction chemical manufacturer, we understand the critical role that sustainability plays in the construction industry. Sustainable construction not only benefits the environment but also has significant economic and social benefits. Our role as a construction chemical manufacturer is crucial in helping reduce concrete’s CO2 footprint. Finding cost effective, green solutions which don’t impact on performance is key to the future of the construction sector and we are continuously looking to develop products which help our customers use or increase their use of products with a lower embodied carbon.

In recognising the critical importance of sustainability and environmental responsibility, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact by promoting sustainable practices in all aspects of the way we do business – this runs from our continuous research and product development to work to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete products through to electrification of our processes, the installation of solar panels at our manufacturing site and being a zero waste to landfill manufacturer.

What are the vital ingredients that make up Oscrete?

Our people, our culture and our expertise - each value is dependent on the other for a truly exceptional customer experience. Today we have the most skilled, committed and dedicated team in our 40 year history and with consistent growth, three new product launches for 2024 and our highest ever customer satisfaction levels, we have the very foundations for another 40 years of continued exceptional customer collaboration, service and delivery.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do?

When I’m not working, I unwind by playing squash, racketball and padel tennis and enjoy representing my club in local and Yorkshire leagues. I also like to go to the gym but my real source of joy comes from spending quality time with my family and taking our Golden Doodle, Wilson, for walks in our local area. We’re very lucky to live and work in God’s Own County and I’m a huge ambassador for Bradford. As a team and a business we are proud supporters and sponsors of Bradford 2025 – the UK’s City of Culture 2025.
