Cemex dry mortars now included in Vertua range

Innovative production techniques reduce embodied carbon of Cemex’s mortar range by more than 30%

THROUGH an ongoing focus on innovative production techniques, Cemex have reduced the embodied carbon of their mortar range by more than 30%*. The carbon saving has been achieved by incorporating the company’s high-performance CEM II A-L 52.5N Vertua cement alongside new admixture technology plus an enhanced production process with a more efficient drying process.

As a result, Cemex’s mortar products now meet the strict criteria to be included in the company’s enhanced Vertua range. The reduction in carbon achieved applies to all Cemex’s dry mortar range of products, including the company’s extensive range of coloured mortars.

Andy Bright, mortars production manager for Cemex Europe, commented: ‘By utilizing designed mortar formations, we have been able to make a considerable carbon reduction to the products in our mortars range. These products are prized by our customers because of their strong performance and strength, flexibility of supply and wide range of colours, and we are confident they will appreciate the opportunity to choose a more sustainable product too.’

Products that bear the Vertua brand must meet requirements for at least one of five sustainable attributes: lower-carbon emissions, increasing energy efficiency, saving water, incorporating recycled materials, and optimizing design. The Vertua logo will be displayed on selected mortar silos across the UK for easy identification. The fact label for the Vertua mortar products will detail the CO2 reduction achieved, and overall CO2 content.

The enhancements made to Cemex’s mortars range come shortly after the launch of the Vertua sprayed concrete product, further demonstrating how the company’s Urbanisation Solutions Europe business is constantly innovating to provide customers with a broad range of more sustainable solutions for the challenges of modern urbanization.

Cemex have also recently launched Cemex Go Mortars, a new digital platform allowing dry mortar customers to manage all jobsite locations in one place. It provides customers with the real-time and detailed information they need for more effective decision-making, with a single point of access to up-to-date data sheets and information regarding the safe use of on-site silos, including risk assessments and more, reducing the amount of paper handling and documentation being lost.
