EUPAVE to host concrete paving workshop
Dowels and tie-bars in focus at upcoming EUPAVE workshop
EUPAVE will hold its 10th Workshop on Best Practices in Concrete Paving on 14 May 2025, bringing together European experts to discuss developments in dowels and tie-bars for concrete pavements.
The hybrid event, free to attend and open to all, takes place at EUPAVE’s offices in Brussels and online. It will run from 14:00 to 16:30, with a closing reception afterwards. Attendees must register by 9 May.
The event will focus on design, materials, standards, and practical techniques for improving load transfer and structural performance in concrete road construction. Confirmed speakers include Dirk Brentzel (Otto Brentzel), Tom Roos (Roos Groep), Pascal Buys (Robuco), Anne Beeldens (AB-Roads), and Luc Rens, EUPAVE’s technical director.
In his opening remarks, Luc Rens will introduce the session and set the agenda for the afternoon. He will also present on the current state of standardisation for dowels in Europe, offering an overview of progress and challenges in aligning practice across member countries.
Pascal Buys will speak about retrofitting options, including dowel bar retrofitting and cross stitching—techniques used to improve performance in older or joint-deteriorated pavements. Anne Beeldens will cover the full process from design to implementation, while Tom Roos will explore the future of glass fibre reinforced products.
Dirk Brentzel will draw on over five decades of industry experience to share insights into reliable load transfer solutions used across European concrete pavements.
The event will be moderated by Jeroen de Vrieze of Cement&Beton Centrum and includes opportunities for questions and informal discussion, as well as a coffee break mid-session.
