Cemex has introduced a Zero Waste to Landfill Office programme across its Europe, Middle East and Africa operations, with its UK head office in Coventry becoming the first site to meet the target.

The scheme is part of the company’s wider Regenera programme, which supports circular economy goals and was launched in 2023 to promote better waste recovery, recycling and resource efficiency. The office-based initiative encourages employees to reduce waste through day-to-day actions, such as improving recycling habits, reducing printing and eliminating disposable items.

Derek O’Donnell, vice president for human resources at Cemex EMEA, said the programme was an important part of the company’s ambition to become waste-free and that empowering office-based teams to contribute was key to long-term change. The Coventry office received the company’s Regenera Seal after nearly three years of work to cut waste and energy use.

The initiative builds on Cemex’s broader progress in sustainable operations, which included the reduction and reuse of 28 million tonnes of waste across its global business last year. Much of this material has been used to support alternative fuel production at its cement plants.

Cemex UK supplies concrete, cement, aggregates and asphalt across infrastructure, commercial and residential projects, and is part of the company’s wider Future in Action strategy to drive decarbonisation and circularity.
