Cemex UK to open new Swindon facility

Cemex UK plans new Swindon mortar and sprayed concrete facility

Cemex UK has revealed plans to open a new plant in Swindon, Wiltshire, by the second half of 2025. This facility will focus on producing lower carbon dry mortar and sprayed concrete, helping to increase Cemex’s production capacity in the South East and South West.

The plant will be a key part of Cemex’s Urbanisation Solutions portfolio and will enable the company to become a national supplier of both dry mortar and sprayed concrete. It will produce Cemex's Vertua lower carbon mortar, which is 30% lower in carbon emissions compared to standard industry products. The reduced carbon footprint has been achieved through the use of Cemex's high-performance CEM II A-L 52.5N Vertua cement, new admixture technology, and an improved production process that features a more efficient drying system.

Mike May, European sales manager for dry & special mortar at Cemex, explained, "Our Mortars business has grown significantly in recent years. With demand outstripping capacity at both our Dove Holes and Braintree plants, Swindon provides the perfect solution. The new facility is strategically located to allow us to increase capacity, enter new regional markets, and support existing ones."

Construction of the Swindon facility has already started, with operations expected to begin later in 2025. The plant will feature an advanced drying process that reduces heat and conserves fuel. It will also include a new covered storage area to protect materials from weather conditions, ensuring efficient operation.

Cemex’s new Swindon plant marks another step forward in the company’s plans to expand its national production capacity and meet growing demand for lower carbon construction solutions.
