Hands-on training for Laing O’Rourke

PERI has delivered a hands-on product awareness workshop for Laing O’Rourke's temporary works teams, aimed at improving on-site safety and knowledge of formwork and scaffolding systems.

The one-day session took place at PERI’s Brentwood facility and included practical training on scaffolding assembly, system inspections, and the use of decking systems like SKYDECK.

Terry Hall, field services manager at PERI UK, highlighted the value of practical experience in an industry where many engineers may rely solely on classroom-based training or 3D drawings.

"It's crucial for people to see and handle the actual equipment they’ll encounter on projects. Many attendees haven't had this kind of hands-on training before, and it helps bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application," he said.

Graduate engineers and more experienced staff attended, focusing on key skills like checking temporary works systems on-site before concrete pours.

Anu Adeyemi, a graduate engineer at Laing O’Rourke, noted the importance of simplifying system components and processes: "Workshops like this make everything easier to understand, which is really helpful when carrying out temporary works checks."

The training session, led by PERI’s field services team, covered a range of tasks including the practical assembly of PERI system scaffolds and inspections of tube and fitting structures, providing valuable insights into equipment safety and best practices.
