New batching plant approved in Glasgow
The Hillhouse Quarry Group, an aggregate material supplier based in Scotland, has received recent approval from Glasgow City Council for the development of a batching plant facility at London Road, Glasgow.
The planning application, submitted in December 2023 and granted in June 2024, involves the development of a fixed concrete batching plant to produce ready-mixed concrete, replacing the temporary mobile batching plant currently on site. The proposal also includes the construction of aggregate storage bays of around 3.2 metres in height, three cylindrical cement silos up to 15 metres tall and a mixer tower with an overall height of 12 metres.
In addition to the production of RMX the planning application suggests the site, once approved, will commence production of concrete products. It is anticipated concrete produced at the new plant will be partially dispatched as ready-mixed concrete and transported by mixer trucks, whilst the remainder will be utilised on-site to manufacture concrete products such as blocks and lintels. The site is well positioned to transport RMX being located adjacent to a railway line and well connected to the motorway.
The new concrete and concrete product facility represents an investment of £9 million which will contribute to making the site an Economic Development Area of Glasgow city, supporting the broader economic objectives of Glasgow.
