Slipform system accelerates high-rise construction

A high rise building under construction using Doka formwork Doka's Slipform system is being used by specialist contractor Keltbray to construct 2 Aldermanbury Square, a 12-storey office building in London’s financial district.

Doka's Slipform solutions have enabled the swift and precise construction of the concrete core for 2 Aldermanbury Square, a 12-storey office building in London’s financial district.

The redevelopment project, led by specialist concrete sub-contractor Keltbray, will increase the building’s lettable area from 16,723 m² to 29,729 m² and includes public space improvements.

The 65m-high core of the building, incorporating 12 lift shafts, two lobbies, and two staircases, was constructed using Doka’s Slipform system. This method allowed for the efficient pouring of approximately 80 m³ of concrete daily, facilitated by up to 11 deliveries of ready-mixed concrete per day.

The system exceeded the planned 'climb' target, achieving a height increase of 2 metres per day.

Offsite pre-assembly of the formwork in Keltbray’s yard, supervised by Doka, was crucial due to limited space on-site. The formwork's easy maintenance and cleaning ensured it was ready for operation within the council’s strict time constraints.

Additionally, Doka integrated two concrete placing booms onto the rig via a single concrete line, streamlining the concreting process.

Doka's collaboration with Keltbray and its technical oversight on-site contributed to the successful and safe completion of the concrete core.

The Slipform system’s compatibility with other Doka rental equipment also offers contractors long-term cost and sustainability benefits for future projects.
