Thomas Armstrong and KVM celebrate 20 years of block production at Consett

Concrete blocks and precast products manufacturer Thomas Armstrong Group has marked 20 years of continuous production at its Consett site, in collaboration with Denmark’s KVM, a global manufacturer of concrete block and asphalt plant systems. The partnership began in 2005 with the installation of a KVM concrete block plant — helping Thomas Armstrong expand its supply of high-quality products to construction markets across the UK.

Since then, the plant has produced thousands of tonnes of concrete blocks, supporting projects locally and nationwide. KVM’s UK office in Derby — which recently marked 40 years — and its engineering base in Denmark have provided reliable technical support, parts, and moulds throughout.

To boost performance and keep pace with modern production standards, a new packing handling line was recently installed. Consett site staff have also received advanced training in Denmark to maximise operational efficiency.

Anthony Denham, managing director of Thomas Armstrong (Concrete Blocks), said: “The KVM equipment has proven to be reliable and efficient, and we find working with both the UK office and service engineers to be easy and supportive to keeping our operation running.”

Close coordination between the site team and KVM has helped maintain consistent output and quality, with fast turnaround on parts and technical input when needed.

Founded in 1830, Thomas Armstrong Group operates across the north of England, supplying concrete blocks, precast flooring, aggregates, and other building materials to commercial and infrastructure projects.

KVM, based in Kolding, Denmark, supplies high-capacity automated systems to concrete and asphalt producers worldwide. Its UK presence supports long-term plant operations like Consett, with a focus on efficiency, reliability, and aftersales service.

As both firms look ahead, their partnership remains focused on productivity, innovation, and skills development to meet future market demands.
