eMixer competence landmark for Breedon
Breedon Group has achieved a significant milestone with the announcement that Paul Ward has become the world’s first qualified eMixer driver.
The announcement follows a comprehensive training programme developed in partnership with MixerSURE, focusing on the safe and effective operation of electric truck mixers.
Tom Colley, area logistics manager at Breedon, highlighted the importance of maintaining high standards in training for the new electric mixer fleet. “Having the confidence that MixerSURE brings effective and industry-leading training to our fleet is crucial,” he said. Colley, alongside Matthew Burdess from Express Mini Mix, worked to implement these standards after welcoming Breedon’s first SANY/Putzmeister electric truck mixer.
Mark Cowan, who oversees the development of MixerSURE for DEK Group NE, explained that the training was designed to reflect the same high standards established for other mixer types: “The logical step was to develop an eMixer category to demonstrate driver competence.”
The training process involved mapping the operating instructions from SANY and Putzmeister to ensure alignment, which was more complex than previous projects.
Ward’s certification demonstrates the commitment to excellence within Breedon’s driver team. “It’s a testament to the professionalism of our drivers, which has been successfully demonstrated again with Paul’s accolade,” Colley noted.
The EMPI Awards SVCA (On-Road) (Mixers) is a regulated vocational qualification overseen by the Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA), allowing drivers of drum, volumetric, and eMixers to demonstrate competence in their daily roles.
Cowan further emphasised the importance of professional training, stating: “Having an entire fleet of professionally qualified mixer drivers shows their commitment to excellence, and they are now the benchmark across the industry.”
