Holcim acquire Belgium-based Mark Desmedt

Mark Desmedt is a leading recycler of construction and demolition materials in Belgium

Holcim have acquired Mark Desmedt, a leading recycler of construction and demolition materials in Belgium, to advance its circular construction efforts in Europe.

Mark Desmedt recycle over 500,000 tons of construction demolition materials annually and is strategically positioned to serve the Brussels and Antwerp metropolitan areas.

Commenting on the acquisition, Miljan Gutovic, CEO of Holcim, said: “With the Mark Desmedt team, we are accelerating our vision to drive circular construction in the key metropolitan areas where we operate to build cities from cities.

Strategically located between Brussels and Antwerp, Mark Desmedt will scale up our ECOCycle technology across Belgium, making circularity a driver of profitable growth. I look forward to welcoming the employees of Mark Desmedt to Holcim and to investing in our next chapter of growth together.”

Founded in 1989 by the Desmedt family, Mark Desmedt have been at the forefront of recycling construction demolition materials in Belgium before expanding into the ready-mix concrete market in 2001, further solidifying its position in the industry.

This acquisition is Holcim’s fourth this year aimed at enhancing circular construction, following the acquisitions of Cand-Landi Group in Switzerland, Land Recovery in the UK, and Mendiger Basalt in Germany.

Holcim’s acquisition of Mark Desmedt aligns with its goal to recycle 10 million tons of construction demolition materials annually.

By integrating Mark Desmedt’s expertise and strategically located facilities, Holcim aims to expand its ECOCycle range of circular building solutions in Belgium, fostering sustainable and profitable growth in the construction sector.
