New helmet aims to boost construction safety

Safety equipment company Guardio is launching the Armet PRO, an industrial safety helmet equipped with impact detection sensors designed to improve worker safety in high-risk industries like construction.

Available in 2025, the Armet PRO is the first industrial helmet to integrate Quin’s sensor technology, which enables the helmet to detect falls or impacts and automatically send emergency alerts if necessary.

The Quin sensor system in the Armet PRO continuously measures movement and impact forces at a rate of 1,000 times per second. In the event of a significant impact, such as a fall or a heavy object striking the helmet, the system assesses the severity of the incident. If it determines a serious risk, it triggers an automatic alert through the wearer’s mobile connection, notifying designated contacts of the wearer’s location and the nature of the event.

This technology is also designed to enhance “situational awareness” on site. For example, if a worker exits a designated safe zone and does not return within a set timeframe, the helmet can send an alert, helping supervisors keep track of safety in restricted areas.

The helmet’s development has involved close collaboration with industry professionals to ensure it meets the needs of construction workers. Scandinavian construction company Arcona worked with Guardio during the development phase. “Safety is a top priority for us,” says Björn Nauclér, health and safety manager at Arcona. “Collaborating with Guardio to test and evaluate the Armet PRO allows us to contribute valuable insights that ensure the highest level of safety on our sites.”

In addition to the Quin sensor system, the Armet PRO helmet incorporates Mips (multi-directional impact protection system) technology, which is designed to reduce the risk of brain injuries from rotational impacts. This combination of Mips and Quin systems aims to set a new standard in industrial helmet safety.

Guardio, a brand under the Nordic PPE supplier Båstadgruppen, sees the Armet PRO as a step towards reducing accidents in high-risk workplaces. Nawar Toma, category manager at Guardio, emphasised the company’s commitment to safety: “Partnering with Mips and Quin allows us to set new safety standards in our industry. Together, we’re working toward our vision of zero fatalities in construction and industrial sectors.”

The Armet PRO will be available in 2025 through Båstadgruppen, which supplies workwear and protective equipment across Europe.
