FPS workshop to help engineers use bearing pressure tool
The Federation of Piling Specialists (FPS) is offering two workshops in 2025 to help engineers and contractors use its Rig Bearing Pressure Spreadsheet effectively. The online sessions, led by Derek Egan, managing director of Remedy Geotechnics, will take place on Thursday 13 March and Thursday 26 June from 12:00 to 13:00.
The FPS spreadsheet is designed to help estimate track bearing pressures for piling rigs operating on granular working platforms. It aims to ensure that structural engineers provide piling contractors with the necessary data for efficient and appropriate designs. Without this information, piling schemes may become unnecessarily expensive or unsuitable for project needs.
“This workshop will walk participants through the tool using worked examples,” said Egan. “Live coaching will ensure the correct approach is taken, helping attendees apply the spreadsheet effectively in real-world scenarios.”
Before the workshop, participants must watch a training video, which will be provided upon registration. The session is free for FPS company members and associate members, while non-members can attend for £95 + VAT.
Non-members who register but do not attend without giving at least 72 hours’ notice will still be charged the full fee.
Egan, who has over 25 years of experience in construction and geotechnical design, will lead the workshop. As a UK-registered ground engineering adviser, he brings expertise from both specialist geotechnical contracting and civil engineering consulting.
