Wirtgen to showcase SP 33 slipform paver

The new Wirtgen slipform paver SP 33 can pave concrete slabs up to a width of 2.2 m (7 ft) in Offset mode and up to a width of 3.0 m (10 ft) transversely to the direction of travel.

Wirtgen is set to unveil its new SP 33 slipform paver at the upcoming World of Concrete 2025, taking place from 21 to 23 January in Las Vegas. The machine promises versatile and efficient concrete paving, with features designed to handle complex construction challenges.

The SP 33’s modular design will allow it to pave a variety of monolithic concrete profiles, including curbs, drainage channels, and safety barriers up to 1.3 m high. In its offset paving configuration, the machine can pave slabs up to 2.2 m wide, or 2.4 m when equipped with a trimmer. Another version, the Crosspave configuration, will enable transverse paving of slabs up to 3.0 m wide.

According to Wirtgen, the SP 33 is engineered for flexibility and precision. "The SP 33 combines versatility and advanced controls, making it ideal for construction sites that require tight radii or complex profiles," said a company spokesperson.

A key feature of the SP 33 is its AutoPilot 2.0 system, which eliminates the need for traditional stringline systems. Instead, it relies on GNSS (global navigation satellite system) technology. GNSS uses signals from satellite systems like GPS, GLONASS, or Galileo to provide precise location and height data. On the SP 33, this allows automatic control of height and steering, improving accuracy and significantly reducing time and labour compared to conventional methods.

The SP 33 also includes an ECO mode, which adjusts engine output automatically to match load demands. This feature is expected to reduce fuel consumption and noise emissions, offering more sustainable operation.

Enhanced manoeuvrability will be provided by two crawler units on parallelogram swing legs at the front and a laterally adjustable rear crawler unit, allowing zero-clearance paving in tight spaces.

Visitors to the Wirtgen stand at World of Concrete (Central Hall, booth C5327) will have the opportunity to learn more about the SP 33’s capabilities. The machine is designed to address growing demand for precise and cost-efficient concrete paving solutions.
